This was a dream project and I'd love to walk you through my process and how I accomplished this amazing task.

  • 1) The Consultation

When you think about it...sketching 9 women you've never met in person could be a daunting task, but this bride was ORGANIZED. On top of our phone consultation, she surprised me with extremely detailed sheets for each bridesmaid, outlining everything from their hair color to the fit of their dresses and even personality traits. The amount of effort she put into these pages showed me just how much she cared and wanted this gift to be special.

  • 2) Digital Rough Sketch

I didn't approach these like I do when I'm quick sketching at an event. Since she sent me close up pictures, I wanted these to be more detailed, and feel personal, showcasing each bridesmaid's unique features. So, I sketched them digitally, which allowed me to make minor tweaks, after getting the bride's feedback and before transferring to paper.

  • 3) Mixed Media Artwork

Next step, I transferred the sketches to paper. We decided it would look nice on brown craft paper. This really allowed the white dresses to pop. I used a mixture of alcohol ink, graphite pencils...and my trusty copic markers! This is where the magic happens!

  • 4) Perfectly Packaged

Once complete, I packaged each illustration into a white framed folder and added a gold sparkly ribbon. The look was clean, modern, and elegant. Check out this video to see the exact process.
